PRIMARY YEARS

What Makes Our Preparatory Years Special?

The Preparatory Years builds upon early learning through inquiry-based and integrated experiences. Learners engage in conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and collaboration across disciplines, reflecting the NCF’s focus on competency-based learning. Guided exploration, reflection, and meaningful projects help students develop agency, responsibility, and the joy of connecting learning with real life.

Learning Designed for Deeper Understanding

In the Preparatory Years, learners move beyond exploration to develop conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and meaningful connections with the real world.

Balanced Literacy Curriculum

As children transition from learning to read to reading to learn, they move from simple readers to engaging novels, explore rich texts that spark imagination and deepen understanding. Through discussions, guided writing, and independent exploration, find their unique voice in language and expression.

Numeracy

Learners move beyond numbers to explore patterns, relationships, and real-world applications of math. They reason, estimate, and problem-solve through hands-on tasks, projects, and games that make abstract ideas come alive and they begin to see mathematics as a powerful tool for understanding their world.

Value and Character building

Children begin to understand values in action - through teamwork, classroom discussions, stories, and daily reflection. They learn to recognise feelings, make thoughtful choices, and begin to see how empathy, honesty, and respect guide their relationships and decisions every day.

Socio-emotional learning

Through Social Emotional Learning children continue to grow more aware of themselves and others as they begin to connect their emotions to real-life experiences. From recognising emotion, they are now learning to express these emotions in different manners and settings while becoming more confidant at developing their social skills emotional intelligence and positive relationships.

Performing Arts

Performing Arts become a joyful space for children to express themselves with confidence and creativity. Through music, dance, theatre, and movement-based activities, learners explore rhythm, storytelling, and expression in age-appropriate ways. Regular class performances and collaborative creations help them build stage presence and cooperative skills. These experiences nurture imagination, emotional awareness, and the courage to share ideas in front of others. Performing Arts thus become a vital part of each child’s holistic development and self-confidence.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts invite children to explore their creativity through drawing, painting, and simple sculpture work. Learners experiment with colours, shapes, textures, and materials, building confidence and fine-motor skills as they create. These hands-on experiences help them express emotions, ideas, and imagination in joyful, age-appropriate ways. Classroom displays and mini-exhibits celebrate their artistic growth and encourage pride in their work. Visual Arts become a space where every child feels inspired to discover, design, and create with freedom.

Physical Education

Physical Education takes on new meaning from mastering basic motor skills to developing strength, coordination, and control through structured games and sports. Students begin to explore and choose the sports they love, discovering their interests and talents along the way. This growing sense of autonomy nurtures confidence, leadership, and the joy of striving for excellence; on the field and beyond.

Inclusion

Our Learning Support Programme offers just the right balance of care and challenge from in-class assistance and small-group sessions to focused remediation and occupational therapy. Support becomes more personalized, helping children strengthen skills, build confidence, and rediscover the joy of learning.

Digital Learning

Our digital learning programme blends creativity with foundational ICT skills. Children explore storytelling through Scratch 3.0, experiment with graphic design, and learn the basics of app and game development using block-based programming. Alongside this creative exposure, learners build essential ICT skills. The focus is on nurturing logical thinking, problem-solving, and confident digital expression all through age-appropriate, hands-on experiences.

Project Based Learning

Project-based learning is not a subject but an approach to learning where children build understanding by exploring ideas across disciplines. Through inquiry and hands-on projects, they connect concepts from science, art, language and technology to make learning purposeful and relevant. This interdisciplinary way of learning promotes collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, helping children see how knowledge works together to shape the world around them.

Parents as Partners

At KPS, parents don’t just witness progress; they feel it, live it, and actively shape it alongside us. Through workshops, celebrations, and showcases parents see learning in motion whether it is the pride of performing on stage or the joy of discovery in a classroom project. making every milestone a celebration of learning together.

STEM

In this hands-on STEM lab, children explore design and technology through building, experimenting, and problem-solving. From simple circuits and models to creative prototypes, they learn to think like designers, innovators, and engineers.

Educator Our classrooms transform learning into a fun, hands-on journey where every step encourages curiosity and confidence. Through Jodo Gyan tools in Maths, project-based learning, and real-life science experiments, students explore concepts deeply rather than memorise them. Each activity is designed to engage different learning styles, ensuring every child feels included, supported, and inspired. By connecting ideas to real life, we help students think independently, create confidently, and enjoy the process of discovering the world around them.
