After the Central Government’s decision to cancel the CBSE Board exam 2021 for class 10th and postponing the CBSE Class 12th Exams due to worsening Covid situation in India, parents as well as students used social media platform to thank the Government. The decision comes as a big relief for everyone. Due to a significant rise in Covid cases, it is next to impossible to appear for students to appear for the exam.
The decision came after a long speculation and after a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. In this meeting, the PM reviewed the prevailing situation in the country and if examinations could be conducted during such times, how they can lead to the surge of new cases of the Coronavirus infection. The Class XII th Board exams were scheduled to be held from May 4th to June 14th 2021. As per a Government release, “These exams will be held hereafter. The situation will be reviewed on 1st June 2021 by the Board, and details will be shared subsequently. A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations,” it further added.
While class XII board exams stand cancelled, the results of Class Xth Board will be allocated on the basis of an objective criterion. In this case, if a student is not satisfied with the marks allocated to them, they would be given an option to sit in an exam once the situation improves.
It is important to note here that many students and parents have already moved to their native place after either losing their jobs or unite with the family members. For all those students, the situation is certainly not favourable or conducive. Many students hailed the decision as ‘perfect, well balanced, timely informed and in favour of students.’ Khaitan Public School community (a school that represents one of the top 5 schools in Ghaziabad, also welcomes the decision taken by PMO and CBSE. As two-thirds of the board exam students belong to class 10, the decision to cancel the exam is certainly a welcome move.
With schools and colleges closed right now in most cities due to Covid-19 situation, students are already facing difficulties in learning and coping up virtually. When even the hospitals have also closed their OPDs for public, it is certainly not desirable for CBSE or government to force the students to appear for board exams.
