Foundation School

What Makes Our Foundation Years Special?

The Foundation Years at Khaitan Public School offers a joyful, play-based environment where curiosity leads the way and learning unfolds naturally. Rooted in the NEP and NCF, it nurtures foundational literacy and numeracy, communication, creativity, and problem-solving through multisensory and experiential experiences. Every child is encouraged to explore, imagine, and express; developing confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love for learning.

Learning Designed for Discovery

At Khaitan, our Foundation Years learning spaces are thoughtfully crafted to spark curiosity, imagination, and joy.

Balanced Literacy Curriculum

Where words shape thought and stories shape learners
At its heart, Balanced Literacy Curriculum recognizes that the true purpose of language is to communicate ideas freely, express oneself with confidence, and connect meaningfully with others. Through read-alouds, shared reading, guided instruction, and independent practice children learn to think deeply, speak clearly and confidently, read with understanding, and write while discovering the joy of meaningful expressions.

Numeracy

At Khaitan, children build a real sense of numbers through exploration, play, and discovery. They count, sort, compare, and measure using objects from everyday life, making math a part of what they see and do. Gradually, ideas take shape; from concrete experiences to pictures and symbols; helping every child understand, not memorise, and see math as something they can enjoy and use with confidence.

Value and Character building

At Khaitan, values are nurtured through everyday experiences; circle time, read-aloud, journaling, and reflection help children understand themselves and others. Each day offers moments to practise empathy, gratitude, and respect; shaping character from the inside out.

Socio-Emotional Learning

Socio-emotional learning is not an add-on at our school; it is at the very heart of our philosophy. Through conversations, stories, art, and play, children are gently guided to recognise, name, and express their emotions in safe, supportive spaces. Our dedicated Socio-emotional learning curriculum, inspired by global best practices, helps teachers design experiences that build self-awareness of managing and responding to emotions with care and understanding.

Performing Arts

Music, movement, and drama bring energy and emotion to learning in the early years. integrated across the curriculum, children learn to listen, observe, and respond to one another through singing rhymes, storytelling, role play, or rhythm-based activities thus building language fluency, coordination, and confidence. Every performance, however small, becomes an act of courage; helping children discover their voice and the joy of sharing it with others.

Visual Arts

At Khaitan, art is used as the language through which children make sense of their world. Through drawing, painting, collage, and clay modelling they observe, imagine, and express ideas freely, build focus and confidence, and discover that creativity is about expression, not perfection.

Physical Education

Strength in Body, Agility in Mind
Physical education in the early years is not just about movement; it is about building the foundation for a healthy body, a focused mind, and a confident self. Through structured play, guided movement, and joyful exploration children develop fine and gross motor skills and build stamina, coordination, and spatial awareness that prepare them for both learning and life.

Inclusive Education

Every Child Learns, Belongs, and Thrives
Our team of special educators, counsellors, and therapists works closely with classroom teachers and parents to design Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each child’s unique learning profile, strengths, and developmental needs. Depending on the nature and intensity of the need, children receive in-class support, pull-out or full learning support, or targeted interventions such as one-on-one remediation, speech and language therapy, or occupational therapy. The goal is integration, not isolation.

Play Based Learning

At the Foundation Stage, play is not a break from learning; it is learning. In thoughtfully designed environments; both indoors and outdoors; children explore, build, imagine, and role-play developing essential skills in communication, problem-solving, and self-regulation while building strong social-emotional foundations.

Parents as Partners

Parents at Khaitan are not passive observers; they are active partners in their child’s learning journey. Through workshops, showcases, and open communication, we build a shared understanding that helps every child learn, grow, and flourish.

Creativo

Learning by Doing, Thinking by Making

Message from the Head

The Foundational Years section is built on strong pedagogical practices, age-appropriate learning experiences, and an unwavering belief in each child’s potential. For me, these early years are the heart of schooling; where confidence is shaped, curiosity is sparked, and little steps turn into big milestones. Our approach blends structured literacy and numeracy with inquiry, play, and social–emotional development, ensuring that learning feels both meaningful and joyful.

As the Head of School for Foundational Years, I have the privilege of witnessing children grow a little every day; whether it’s a new word they read, a friendship they build, or a question that reflects their wonder. I am deeply proud of the culture of warmth, safety, and excellence that our team works tirelessly to uphold, and I feel truly honoured to be a part of each child’s beautiful beginning.
