Khaitan Public School's Global Thinkers' Conclave 2.0

The Khaitan MUN Global Thinkers’ Conclave 2.0 was flagged off on 19th December 2020 with 34 schools and over 200 delegates from across the globe.

These days, the moment we hear the words lockdown and pandemic, our minds are flooded with all the things that we have not been able to do, or opportunities that we have missed out on. But sitting in our homes with nothing to do has made us rethink things that we simply accepted pre-lockdown.

The lockdown has resulted in interesting conversations around online education, pharmaceuticals, protests and public gatherings, the entertainment industry and the media and whether a pandemic was what we deserved to start thinking about sustainability. That’s where, the idea of the Global Thinkers’ Conclave 2.0 was born.

The Chief Guest for the opening ceremony was the Ambassador of Guatemala to India, H.E Giovanni Rene Castillo Polanco. In a 33-year diplomatic career, he has been the Ambassador of Guatemala to numerous countries including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Mexico. He has written many academic articles and lectures on the History of Guatemala, Guatemalan Literature, Music, etc. He has received the Grand Order of Mugunghwa, in Grade of Grand Cross, awarded by the Korean government and has been the recipient of various other honours.

Mr Polanco addressed the young delegates and the students of our school. In his riveting speech on diplomacy and how communication among countries is conducted, he guided the students about what qualities a diplomat must possess. He also spoke about the use of technology and its importance in today’s context. His benign presence in the ceremony was inspiring for the delegates and secretariat alike.
A charming dance performance by the dancers of Khaitan Public School, named ‘Sarwam Krishnamayam’, symbolizing the love for Lord Krishna, and his devotees followed. Then, Khaitan Public School’s esteemed Principal, Ms Sonia Anil Verma encouraged the young diplomats and organizers with her wise words.
A look at the various committees, topics of discussion and the profiles of the chairpersons of these committees was followed by a dance performance, which was a fusion of EDM and Desi Dance was presented.
Thereafter the conference was officially declared open by the Secretary-General, Rashi Ratan and the energetic young delegates ranging from the age-groups of 11 to 18 were all set to partake in the qualitative debate, research and problem-solving waiting for them over the two days of the KhaitanMUN Global Thinkers’ Conclave 2.0 Conference.
The two day conference saw the delegates from across the world discuss solutions to problems, which are close to their hearts. These topics of discussion were aligned beautifully with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals prescribed by the United Nations.
The closing ceremony held on 20th December 2020 was a fitting end to the Conference. It started with the splendid performance named ‘Naari’ performed by the Bharatnatyam Students of Khaitan Public School. The hosts then introduced the Evening’s Chief Guest Dr. Geetanjali Chopra who is the founder of the famous Non-Governmental Organisation named ‘Wishes and Blessings’. She is also an academician, researcher, columnist, and most importantly, a representative to the United Nations Development Programme. She talked about becoming global thinkers and making a large difference and impact in the future. Then she shared her highly motivational and insightful experiences with the audience along with a short exercise for the same. The ceremony further proceeded with KPS’ Head of Events, Media and Publication and also KhaitanMUN’s Chef de Cabinet, Ms. Gunjan Tripathi who gave the Vote of Thanks. The ceremony was declared closed by the Secretary General.
