Trees provide us with a multitude of environmental, social and economic benefits, and are an important foundation for a livable and sustainable life. They also play a pivotal role in preventing soil erosion, maintaining ecological balance and reducing the effects of global warming.
The urgency to preserve the green cover of the city has led the Ghaziabad authorities to begin a city-wide ‘Tree Plantation Drive’. The students of Khaitan Public School played the role of green warriors and planted several saplings at the school’s sports complex with a promise to set a positive example for the community.
The plantation drive at KPS was graced by the presence of Ms. Raj Sharma, a noted environmentalist, also known as the ‘Tree Lady of India’ and Mr. S.K. Goutam, the Zonal Officer, Mohan Nagar. The august guests addressed the gathering and highlighted that tree plantation is a necessity and an urgent need of the hour.
The experience of seeing life blossom with their efforts was a gratifying and rewarding one for the students. The main purpose of the programme was to sensitize the future global citizens about the relevance of their contribution to the environment. It is these young minds, who will herald the changes that will return the planet to its former glory.
The students took an oath to grow more trees and encourage their friends and family to do the same. The event culminated with the words of the Principal, Ms. Sonia Anil Verma, ‘When we plant trees, we do a great service to our environment and ourselves’.
