A Message by Head Mistress

Lovely Arora (Head, Middle Wing)

"If you are not willing to learn
No one can help you
If you are determined to learn
No one can stop you.

The Middle School years are the most fertile years in a child's education. Middle Wing faculties work collaboratively to recognize and address adolescents- developmental diversity.

The impressionable age of adolescence makes the children open to new ideas. The Middle Wing learning experience and years act as a bridge between the Junior Wing and the Senior Wing.

Paying ode to the importance of transition from Middle School to Senior School education, the middle wing offers a gamut of activities like Discovery Spot Lab, BiBox and the likes to foster out-of-box thinking. Plethora of learning experiences are designed through Clubs, I Lead Program, Special Assemblies, THOTS for students to provide maximum opportunities of growth and leadership to them.

The classrooms come to life with the Active Learning curriculum and experiential learning techniques. The middle wing lays a great emphasis on inclusive education. The academic curriculum of middle wing is designed to instill a healthy respect for hard work and to develop sound formal studying skills. In these years students are prepared for the rigorous academic requirements of the senior school.

Curriculum

International Primary Curriculum

The International Primary Curriculum is the result of years of development, trialing and improvement underpinned by the desire for rigorous learning, high levels of engagement, international-mindedness and personal development.

It all began in the 1980's with the introduction of the UK National Curriculum to Shell's English-speaking schools located around the world. By the middle of the 1990's Shell was adopting a much more international workforce and that inspired a need for a more Internationally-focused Primary Curriculum. So Fieldwork Education took on the enviable job of travelling the globe to find the best learning-focused, internationally-minded, engaging and skills-based curriculum available. There was nothing in existence that achieved it all.

Necessity led to the creation of IPC which is now running in 80 countries across the globe.

No one can properly predict the nature of work that will be available for today's primary age children by the time they are adults. Many of the jobs they will have simply don't yet exist, especially in the fields of ICT, technology and science. So the principle of the IPC is to focus on personal, academic and international learning that will prepare children, wherever they may live, for the world of tomorrow.

Fundamental to the IPC approach to learning is a clear progression in skill development. This even applies to the personal learning goals which emphasizes adaptability, resilience, cooperation and respect and which, as a result of progressive skill development, help children to become able and inspired learners. As for the international context, it's not just an add-on. International-mindedness is embedded into all IPC learning to ensure that children grow up with a very clear global understanding.

The International Primary Curriculum empowers children to be creative and to initiate and direct their own learning and that of others, encouraging personal and interdependent working to resolve tasks and problems.

At KPS we have introduced it in 5-7 years, age group.

Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE)

The school follows CCE pattern introduced by CBSE for all the classes. Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation refers to a system of school-based evaluation of the students that covers all aspects of student's development. It incorporates both scholastic and co-scholastic aspects of evaluation. It basically means regularity of assessment, frequency of unit-testing, diagnosis of learning gaps and use of corrective measures. The major emphasis of CCE is on the continuous growth of the students ensuring their intellectual, emotional, physical, cultural and social development to equip them to meet the challenges in life with confidence. We at KPS cater to all these needs by diligently following CCE.

Experiential Learning

Experience as the source of learning and growth

Learning is a process where knowledge and understanding are derived from and continuously modified by the experiences that a learner goes through.

To learn is not a special province of a single specialized realm of human functioning such as cognition or perception. It involves the integrated functioning of the total being i.e. thinking, feeling, perceiving and acting. For effective learning to happen one needs four different kinds of abilities / capacities - concrete experience abilities (CE), reflective observation abilities (RO), abstract conceptualization abilities (AC) and active experimentation abilities (AE). He/she should be able to reflect upon and observe his/her experiences from many perspectives (RO). He/she must be able to construct conceptual understanding that integrates his/her observations into logically sound theories (AC) and he/she must be able to use these theories to make decisions and solve real life problems (AE). [Kolb's Theory of Experiential Learning]

Children are individuals with different learning styles and dispositions, and, varying learning paces. They have their own preferred way of figuring things out and have different ways of entering into any complex problem and solving it. It is important that we acknowledge and respect the diversity of their learning styles, the differential pace of learning and the diversity of expression in children and thereby, provide them the space to remain and learn differently. This is our effort at Khaitan Public School, Sahibabad to cater to different learning styles and paces with differential teaching strategies.

Helen O´Grady

KPS in collaboration with Helen O' Grady International, an English Speech & Drama Academy has initiated a programme to develop the language and communication skill of students. It is a world renowned programme, which teaches communication skill through the medium of drama. It involves children in a fun-filled class of high energy and high creativity, helping them to develop their imagination, structured and unstructured speech.

It has been helping children for the last 30 years in over 25 countries all over the world to develop confidence, self-esteem, better pronunciation and diction, which are major ingredients of effective communication.

An Academic Year Programme starts from April, comprising of 3 terms, 10 lessons in each term (30 lessons a year) followed by an end term production by the students.

Children are awarded with 'Achievement certificates' for the same.

THOTS

We have introduced THOTS program for the session 2013 - 14 for Classes III - V.

It's all about learning the experiential way. At 'Thots Lab' children learn to solve their problems. Thots Lab is a new concept that provides children with thinking tools and lays stress on experiential learning.

Through engagement, encouragement and age appropriate experiences and experiments the children are exposed to 17-20 different physical Thinking Tools in a year like Hypothesis, Sequencing, Extrapolating, Visualizing, Focusing, Observing, Referencing, Questioning & Intergrating.

Abacus

It is amazing that a tool of mathematical calculation can help in the development of child's right brain and can also improve his numerical memory. Abacus learning can increase a child's self-esteem and self-confidence. Moreover abacus can help in the development of memory in spatial domain.

Our abacus programme is focussed to enhance the skills like concentration, memory power, observation, analytical skill, self-confidence, logical & reasoning ability and better visualization.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
